The purpose of the BOMA Raleigh-Durham Government Affairs Committee is to promote the interests of the commercial real estate industry through legislative analysis, advocacy and member education. The Government Affairs Committee shall work to improve conditions relative to the ownership' and management of commercial real property, particularly where they may relate to municipal, state and federal legislative, code, judicial and regulatory actions. Through accomplishing these goals, we seek to provide a valid service and further enhance BOMA'S effectiveness and image. Through these initiatives and successfully reaching our goals, we feel we will draw other members by exposure to the community enhancing our communities effectiveness and our image - becoming better known. Also by providing more information flow to our members, they will find desirous to become a part of BOMA.
GOALS AND DUTIES
Provide leadership and involvement:
Local: building and zoning.
Building codes statewide.
Continue BOMA React Program.
Continue Indoor Air Quality.
Monitor ethis guidelines.
American with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Be proactive regarding deregulation of utilities.
Be proactive in telecommunications issues.
Highlight legislative issues via website, newsletter, press releases, etc.
Disseminate legislative information to members.
Schedule a legislative seminar.
Invite legislators to speak at monthly luncheons.
Investigate a local PAC for Wake/Durham/Orange County.
Increase number of committee members.
Maintain a list of committee members and update Board as new members join/depart committee.
Send meeting notices to your committee via email/fax.
Record meeting minutes and distribute to committee (not mandatory)
Report to the Board the status of your goals and objectives.
Understand and adhere to budget parameters for the Government Affairs Committee.
